Microblading FAQs

What is microblading?

Microblading is a form of semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing meant to mimic the appearance of natural brow hair. This is done using tiny, sterile, disposable blades to implant colored pigment into the epidermis layer of the skin, hence why the procedure is semi-permanent.

What is the difference between microblading and the powder brow? How do I know which is right for me?

Microblading is done by an artist using a hand tool, with a disposable blade. Each microblading stroke is placed deliberately to best mimic the appearance of real hair. If you prefer a natural brow, this is the best option for you. Makeup can still be used to fill the brows in if you wish, after fully healed. The powder brow is done by an artist using a tattoo machine, with a disposable cartridge. Tiny pixels of color are layered on top of each other to mimic the appearance of a brow filled in with makeup. If you fill your brows in every day, and prefer the look of makeup on the brow, this is the best option for you. If you are unsure of which brow you’d prefer, please feel free to ask at the time of your appointment.*

*Not all artists offer both options.

How much will the procedure hurt?

Topical numbing cream is applied to every client before their procedure begins, and a secondary numbing gel is used during the procedure to ensure that the client remains comfortable the entire time. Some clients with lower pain tolerances equate the sensation with being scratched, while others don’t feel a thing. Your comfort is a priority, so never be afraid to speak up if you’re feeling anxious or would like to be numbed for a longer duration.

How does the artist determine the new shape of my brows?

Your new brow shape is based almost entirely on your bone structure. Before numbing begins, your artist will create a guideline for your new brows by measuring and mapping the best shape suited to your face. We will always incorporate as much of your natural brow hair into your new shape as possible, in order to minimize maintenance for you. If you have any preferences, we’re happy to take these into account to give you a brow that you’ll love. Before microblading begins, you’ll have the opportunity to see the outline of your new shape, and ask any questions or request changes.

What do I need to do/know before I arrive for my microblading procedure?

Please shower and wash your hair as close to your appointment time as possible. If you have an ideal shape and color in mind, bring a few reference photos with you to your appointment. You may fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so we can take into consideration the shape you desire. If you regularly get your eyebrows shaped, waxed, threaded or tinted, please do so at least 3 days before your appointment. If there are any stray hairs that fall outside of our final shape, we can remove them.

If you plan to go on a vacation, it is recommended to plan your trip a minimum of 14 days after the procedure. We require our clients to avoid any blood thinning medication for a minimum of 72 hours prior to their appointment. This includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen. Do not drink any alcohol the night before and day of your appointment and limit the amount of caffeine you consume. It is highly recommended that you avoid the SUN and TANNING BED exposure for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.

Who is NOT a good candidate for microblading?

Clients must be 18 or older to be microbladed. Women who are currently pregnant must wait until after they have given birth. If you have been on prescription Accutane in the past, you MUST wait at least one year before considering this procedure. Clients that get Botox must wait at least three weeks before being microbladed, or can receive Botox three weeks after the procedure.
